One of Hayward's most beloved local landmarks, the Hayward Japanese Gardens (22373 N Third St, Hayward, CA 94541) is a beautifully maintained 3.5-acre park featuring koi ponds, stone lanterns, a teahouse, arching footbridges, and manicured grounds that make it one of the most photographed backdrops in the East Bay. Admission is free, and the gardens are open Tuesday through Sunday. The surrounding residential neighborhood on North Third Street has limited street parking — school field trip groups and large parties often find the area at capacity by midmorning on weekends.
Charter buses drop visitors at the main entrance off Third Street and wait on the adjacent service road. The gardens are a popular pre-prom photo stop and a top choice for quinceañera and family event photography in the Hayward party bus itinerary.
